Section 11 – Data centres, Servers,

Ok now I have 3  bags,
The first bag has – clothes, photo albums, ipad.
The second bag has – a calculator, books, musical instrument, camera.
The third bag has – lunch box, a smiley ball, table tennis racket with a ball, a t –shirt,
and a box of pizza.

Now instead of these real bags and all stuff, what if I take pictures and put in diff websites, how much would you be interested? And of how many peoples private data or companies commercial data would you keep watching. Because to see all the data of the entire world available online it will take you millions of years, may be infinite years as every day millions of people across the world keep posting new data online.

But where is all these data stored and how does it come to us.

As discussed in previous chapter that without a storage component your mobile or your computer would be like a plain manual calculator. It will perform and display but will not save that performance data nor the final result data..hence we require storage components to store all these computing data .

Now for example your mobile phone has internal storage of 32 gb or 64 gb or your computer has a storage capacity of 500 gb or 1tb, once they are full you may buy additional external storage like the external hard disk, you transfer your data and empty some space in your device and move on.

Now lets open a website https://www.abc.com, what you see is the website in your device has some images, some text and graphics, all this is data, this data is stored in a harddisk of another computer , and that computer is stored in a rack along with 100’s of other computers.

Now see this image it has hundreds of computers kept in racks, This is like a big air conditioned godown with all computers having continuos power supply and high speed internet connectivity.
These godowns are called as Data Centres.

We have many data centres across world, big it companies like google, microsoft, apple , facebook etc have their own data centres, there are small companies having data centres who give storage space in a single rack to diff people to keep your website data. Which is known as web hosting.

Sharing data center tour video links or Images.

All such data centres are connected across the world via cables under the sea, to a router near your city. From where your machine is connected via local cable or wifi, so you can access the data across all these private and commercial computer godowns termed as data centres.
